Being a new parent was one of the most confusing times in my life. Everything changes: the way that you feel about yourself, the way your marriage functions, and the way that you care for your child(ren) can turn your world upside down. To make it worse, everyone (loads of parenting experts, doctors, friends, relatives, etc.) believe that their advice will make your parenting experience easier.
Almost all of this parenting advice is well-intended, but more often than not you’ll hear confusing and contradictory claims about parenting that can make your job even more difficult than nature made it to begin with!

I am in Seattle from Wednesday to Sunday for Postpartum Support International’s (PSI) Annual Conference. I just attended the first day of Psi’s Perinatal Mood Disorders Training with Birdie Gunyon Meyer, RN, MA, and Pec Indman, EdD, MFT.
So far so great!
Pregnancy is a time of spiritual & psychological growth, but can also be a time of uncertainty. Personal issues as being in a relationship, balancing career and motherhood, and being a good parent may start to show up. During this time of change, intense emotions may come up as you re-evaluate your ideas about life and relationships.
Much joy and much stress may show up, as you wonder about how it will be to become a parent. If you experienced abuse in your past, you may wonder if you can parent calmly, even if you are determined to break the cycle of abuse.
This is number four in my review of the seemingly endless books on Infant Sleep Methods currently out there. I’m demystifying the field of infant sleep for new moms, to make it a bit easier. I mean, who can read a two hundred page book
when you are trying to get some shut-eye with your newborn in the middle of the night?

Hey everyone! Back after a long blogging break! If you visit my Twitter and Facebook feeds, you know that in February, I fell on the New Jersey ice and got a mild concussion. I was trying to work at my usual pace, but the doc suggested I pretty much stop reading and writing to allow my brain to rest! Tough order! But it sure helped alot! It’s April and I’m coming back slowly!
